Don’t stand by
If you turn appliances off at the mains rather than leaving them on standby, you could save around £33 a year on energy bills.
Cut down on hot water use
It takes a lot of energy to heat the large amount of water that we use for washing. By using a shower timer, try and reduce your shower time gradually during the week. Not only does it save time but it will save you money on your gas and electricity bills too. Other ways of saving hot water are through putting the plug in when you wash your face, shave and wash up.
Turn it down
Heating is the number one user of energy in your home. Try putting on an extra layer of clothing and reducing your room temperature. Set your heating and hot water to only come on when necessary.
Tea time
Your kettle uses a lot of energy but you can reduce the amount it uses by only filling it with as much water as you need.
